What can
WOW do for my child?WOW gives your child a place to be with other
children who have similar experiences as he/she does. It's a place to experience new
activities they may not have experienced before and possibly never would have tried
without other kids just like them giving them the support and encouragement they need to
try.
WOW expands childrens' views of what they can accomplish, helping them to have
more meaningful experiences. WOW's Winners remember the Circle experiences
throughout their lives. This supportive group really encourages children to explore their
interests and increase their independence and the skills they will need in their adult
lives.
Another way that WOW Circle meetings are helpful is
that they give you a short break. Your child meets every other Saturday for
approximately 2 1/2 hours. This may give you a chance to get some shopping done, go
to lunch or just take a break.
WOW encourages your child to participate in activities you may not have thought
that he/she would ever get a chance to. It is a real treat to see your child participating
in things like baseball, basketball, fishing, tennis and crafts that may not have been
available to them before. The self-esteem and independence they gain from participating in
activities with their Circle fosters a happier child with lasting memories.
What do they do at a Circle meeting?
Your child will meet with a WOW Circle twice a month. Heres how the
meeting runs:
First they get in a big Circle with all their WOW friends.
Opening Sound-Off Ceremony- say the WOW pledge and share interesting news.
Hub Time- The first activity of the meeting. They might watch a video, learn
something new or do something fun!
Pit Stop- Play a game or a sport like basketball.
Mini-Wheels- get into smaller Circles and work on a Spoke.
Checkered Flag Time- come back to the big Circle, enjoy some snacks and say the
WOW Pledge again!
