What's WOW: Challenges And Opportunities The sight of a child using a wheelchair often restricts the perception of what that child can contribute to his/her community and world. All too often limited expectations for children with disabilities yield fewer social contacts and job opportunities, as they become adults. Unfortunately, it is common for adults with disabilities to face barriers of indifference and isolation from an uninformed general public. Existing private and public programs that typically focus on education, recreation and/or sporting events fail to address important areas of socialization and self-discovery that would assist children to become more self-confident, independent and productive citizens. This void in programs that build self confidence and independence of children with disabilities created a window of opportunity for us to launch a new, break-through organization called Winners on Wheels (WOW). Founded in 1991, WOW is a non-profit organization determined to inspire children with disabilities to "be all they can be" focusing upon an important developmental sphere - the building of a healthy self-image.
